Devonalds Solicitors are delighted to announce we have joined the Cancer Research UK Free Will Scheme. Under the scheme, you can have a standard Will drafted by one of our Law Society accredited solicitors completely free of charge.
We’re joining forces with the UK’s leading cancer charity to help highlight the power of gifts in Wills in saving lives. 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime and gifts in Wills help fund pioneering research that is saving lives on a global scale.
When making a Will under the Free Will Scheme, you will have the opportunity to leave a gift to Cancer Research UK if you wish. You will be under no obligation to leave a gift to Cancer Research UK, and if do wish to leave a gift it can be for any amount. Any gift you do choose to include will only be payable on your death.
Joel Evans, Partner at Devonalds said: “Many of us at Devonalds have friends or family who have been affected by this devastating disease, so we are honoured to partner with this fantastic charity. We hope that our clients’ pledges can help Cancer Research UK continue their progress that has already seen survival in the UK double in the last 40 years.
Everybody needs a Will, but around one in three people die without making a Will. People often delay making a Will because they find the process too daunting, or are worried about the costs involved. With Devonalds, making a Will is quick, stress free and simple, and now thanks to Cancer Research UK it won’t cost you a penny, so don’t put it off any longer!
Our solicitors can meet you at one of our six offices, at Talbot Green, Tylorstown, Tonypandy, Bridgend, Pontypridd, or Treorchy. If you’re unable to attend an office, we can even come out to your home, or we can meet via a telephone or video call.”
Gifts in Wills fund over a third of the charity’s life-saving research. Without them, Cancer Research UK would not be able to undertake the vital research that will one day beat cancer for patients in South Wales and across the UK.
Kelly Brooks, Legacy Partnership Manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “We’re so pleased to be able to offer our Free Will Service to over 18s in South Wales and work with Devonalds Solicitors to help people make an all-important first Will or update an existing one.”
Together with its supporters, Cancer Research UK has played a role in developing 8 out the world’s top 10 cancer drugs, helped prove the link between tobacco and cancer and aided the development of radiotherapy - which benefits more than 130,000 patients every year in the UK. As the only charity fighting over 200 types of cancer, they are determined to accelerate progress so that 3 in 4 people survive their cancer by 2034.
How do I make a Will under the Free Will Scheme?
One of our friendly solicitors will chat with you about your situation and personal wishes before giving you expert advice about your Will. At Devonalds, we’ll ask the right questions and offer the right solutions, whatever your circumstances. You’ll have the option to leave a gift to Cancer Research UK if you wish, but this is completely optional. The gift could be an amount of money, certain possessions, or a share of your estate. We will then quickly draft a professional Will that reflects your wishes and protects your loved ones. Once signed, we can safely store the Will for you free of charge, and provide you with a copy.
